We were honored to have Devard Darling on our campus. He
was born on April16, 1982 in Nassau, Bahamas. He had a twin brother that also
had a dream to make it in the NFL. He went to Garcia Middle School and
then Stephen f. Austin High School. Darling graduated from Florida State
University. He fulfilled his dream of being a wide receiver for the Houston
Texans in the NFL. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2004 NFL
Draft.

Lights, Camera Action!!
How cool, 7th grade girls from Missouri City Middle School
will be on the News. Flip your channel to FOX 26 at 5 pm or 9 pm and stay
tuned. This became possible because of our guest speaker.
Our Motivational speaker, Melinda Spaulding, is a
co-anchor of FOX 26 News. She is a member of the Houston Association of Black
Journalists. Her first reporting job was in New Orleans. She stayed in Houston
for 6 years. Melinda began her career working on television at KTLA WB 5 in Los
Angeles. She won an award for “Best News Writing” by the regional Associated
Press .Melinda wanted to encourage the girls to make good choices. She wants
them to make choices and bounce back up after making a bad choice. She was
giving contexts words for them to understand resilient. She taught them to be
positive and careful with choices and how to encourage other people around them.
Doctor a day. . . .
Darryl Knox is a physician. He specializes in psychiatry. He worked very hard to achieve his dream. He says his work is exciting because he gets different cases on daily basis.
At this point in life, he deals with more administrative work than seeing patients.

Mechanical Engineer/Designer!
Daniel Harvey is a mechanical engineer. He designs models of objects on
the computer and defines their geometry. The program he uses helps him
determine the mass and the volume of the objects he needs to model. His
everyday work with computers involves a lot of designing and testing.
Emergency Room Nurse!
Marlene
Petry, an Intensive Care Unit nurse was first in her family to attend college.
She takes care of the sickest patients in the hospital. She went to Lamar University
for her Associates degree and attended University of Texas Medical
Branch to get her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) She obtained a Masters
degree from Regis
University . Her husband
was supportive of her throughout her nursing career. She started her career by teaching
other nurses how to give shots and clean the patients.
Drumming Much?
Starlic Williams believes in pursuing dreams, not jobs. His
dream was to become a part of music industry, so he went for it. Music, drumming to be precise, is his
passion. He worked a few jobs but was not satisfied with them so he returned
back to Music.
Mr. Williams is currently working on his clothing line, which will be launched soon.

Fashion with an Educational Twist!
Jackie Cobbin is the founder and owner of Divine Closet.
She is also an education consultant. She has been recognized as the one of the
most effective and result oriented consultants in America. Her goal is to
inspire young entrepreneurs.
Dr. Cobbin practiced people skills with our students. She
explained the importance of dressing well, introducing oneself effectively and
speaking up when needed. She stressed the importance of staying in school and
studying hard.

Career Day is coming to MCMS!
On Feb 7th, 2012, we are hosting our annual Career Day.
Our theme for this year is IMAGINE, DISCOVER AND PURSUE: CAREERS FOR A GLOBAL
TOMORROW. We are very excited to meet awesome individuals from a wide variety
of career paths. They will share information on various aspects of their
occupation. Come join us and have fun as we explore occupational choices.
